What is an Exercise Physiologist?
An Exercise Physiologist is an Allied Health professional who specialises in the benefits of exercise to help patients get fitter for all around good health, or to treat patients with a medical condition through exercise.
Exercise Physiologists have tertiary qualifications and are equipped with a wide range of knowledge about the human body and the benefit that exercise has on it, both mentally and physically.
Exercise Physiologists are knowledgeable about the effects that exercise has on the musculoskeletal system, as well as on the cardiovascular and endocrine systems. They can prescribe a course of exercises for either fitness or rehabilitation.
The National Health Co-op offers accredited Exercise Physiology sessions for treatment of a wide variety of injuries and chronic conditions.
Members are able to access our Exercise Physiologists under bulkbilling arrangements if a referral from your doctor for treatment on an Enhanced Primary Care Plan is received. Private consultations are available at $70 per session for members. Private health rebates may be available; please check with your insurer. Our Exercise Physiologists are also available to treatment for WorkCover claims, Department of Veterans affairs clients and CTP claims.
